Pain management focuses on diagnosing chronic pain and creating a treatment plan to manage symptoms.

Are there different types of pain?

There are two main types of chronic pain you may experience: nociceptive pain and neuropathic pain.

Nociceptive pain stems from tissue or nerve damage. Examples of this type of pain include a cut or broken arm.

A disease that affects your nervous system causes neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain includes phantom limb pain or pain stemming from shingles or cancer treatments.

What types of disorders cause chronic pain?

There many types of disorders and diseases that cause chronic pain and require pain management for treatment.

Causes of chronic pain include:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Myofasciitis (muscle pain)
  • Migraines and headaches

What are ways to manage chronic pain?

There are many ways the Evia Medical Center team manage your chronic pain. Taking a holistic approach to your treatment plan, one or both of the following may be used.

Acupuncture

Known for putting small needles into strategic places in your body, the Evia Medical Center may use acupuncture to relieve your pain. When undergoing acupuncture, your practitioner places needles into key points to stimulate and redirect your body’s natural energy and relieve your pain.

Trigger-point injections

Your practitioner at Evia Medical Center may also use trigger-point injections to manage your pain. These injections relax muscles and ease the pain they cause. Your practitioner injects a saline solution, which often also contains hydrocortisone, into the problem area, or “trigger point.”

There isn’t a one-treatment-fits-all solution to pain management. Your practitioner at Evia Medical Center first identifies the cause of your chronic pain and then devises your treatment plan.
